Brief History
Training Ship Rahaman has its beginnings in the year 1910 when Haji Ismail Yusuf, the proprietor of the Bombay Steam Navigation (BSN) Company decided to establish a Marine School as a charitable institution at Rashid Mansion, Worli Point, then Know as Bombay. It was a debt of gratitude to the seafaring community who had served loyally on the Company’’s ships. The purpose was to encourage the orphans and wards of the seafaring community, irrespective of caste, creed or religion, to follow in the footsteps of their forefathers, and at the same time meet the demand of indigenous mercantile marine of the country which was experiencing a shortage of trained deck hands and officers.Read More
