The
complex was completed and inaugurated in Feb. 1984, the first centre in
the country for training of officers and crew in Fire Fighting in technical
collaboration with the Maritime College, Warsash, UK. With the coming into
force of the STCW '95 the syllabi has been updated and courses in Fire
Prevention and Fire Fighting are conducted for crew and courses in Advanced
Fire Fighting for Officers. The complex consists of a fire fighting pad
with a three storey mock up model of a ship where actual shipboard fire
drills are practiced, a two storey container unit for smoke room exercises
and a fixed installation demonstration room. The Training Ship is a member
of the Institute of Fire Engineers, India (IFE). |
