George
Campbell Reference Library was established in the year 1998 with the gift of
books, CDs and video films by Mr. Fernandes, President, and one of the
Trustees of the George Campbell Reception Foundation,
Nassau, Bahamas. It was
originally housed on the first floor of the Hasham Sailor Mess. In the wake of
urgent reorganisation of the infrastructure facilities, it was decided to
adopt a unique concept of combining Library facilities with a Reception Centre.
Thus the work on George Campbell Reception Centre commenced in March 2001 with
the personal contribution of 75% of the total cost of the Project by Mr Leslie
Fernandes. The work on the Centre was completed in December of the same year.
The Centre was formally inaugurated on 19th
May 2002 by Mrs Cynthia Fernandes, wife of Mr Leslie Fernandes and Mrs Kazuko
Yamada, wife of Mr Shoichi Yamada, a Trustee and Representative of the Freedom
Foundation, Nassau, Bahamas. While the Reception Centre is located on the
Ground Floor, the Reference Library is housed in an hexagonal glass enclosure
offering a beautiful view of the Campus. The Library subscribes to over 30
Journals and has a stock of over 2,500 books on various subjects including
over 900 rare books. The Library is kept open seven days a week and remains
open till 2300 hours on six days a week to facilitate studies by the
candidates. A dedicated line for internet connection has been hired from MTNL.
A Local Area Network (LAN) provides easy access to the World Wide Web and
email. Reprographic facilities that include Photocopier and a Scanner have
also been made available in the same premises.
The Reception Centre serves
as a central reception area for all candidates arriving at the Campus for
various courses. Drinking Water, cold drinks, tea and coffee are available
along with PCO and STD facilities. Payment of fees can be made either by cash
or by Credit Cards. Cash receipts are immediately issued to the candidates by
the Receptionist and the Cashier available in the Reception Centre. |
