The Indian Global Maritime Distress & Safety System (GMDSS), GOC course was started on 18th November 1996 with a grant from Maritime Association of Ship owners, Ship Managers and Agents (MASSA). The Training Ship is now an "Approved Training Institution" by the Ministry of Communications, Government of India.
                                                                                                                             The first GMDSS GOC course in conjunction with the Association of Marine Electronics & Radio College (AMERC), UK was started on 21st May 1997. The Training Ship is also recognized as a "Regional Examination Centre" for AMERC courses in India.

 

Radio ARPA & Navigation Simulator Courses (RANSCO)

 

In June 2002 the Foundation received approval from the D. G. Shipping to conduct the RANSCO Course for Officers of the Merchant Navy at the Operation and Management level.

The simulator installed has multiple capabilities and can be used for the following IMO modular courses

  • ARPA

  • Bridge Team Management

  • Radar Observers Course

  • ECDIS

By incorporating additional modules, the simulator can also be converted into

  • Full Mission Ship Handling Simulator

  • Fishing Simulator

  • Pilot Training

The Echo Generating System of the simulator is capable of generating more than 70 targets in ten different International Geographical areas, which include high traffic density areas such as Straits of Singapore, Gibraltar, Dover, etc. Targets include ships, ferries and small boats navigating at varying speeds.

Simulator exercises can be carried out from the Navigating bridges with twenty different types of vessels ranging from RoRo Ships or Passenger Ferries to a Bulk Carrier or VLCC.
